April 19, 2025 – A remarkable achievement has emerged in the chemical industry. Recently, a crucial milestone has been reached in the Inner Mongolia Baofeng Coal – based New Materials Key Project, constructed by the Suzhou – Hangzhou Company under China Construction Installation. The third MTO unit of the first – phase project, with an annual production capacity of 2.6 million tons of coal – to – olefins and a supporting 400,000 – ton green hydrogen – integrated olefin production project, has successfully completed the feedstock commissioning. The smooth operation of this unit marks the full – scale production of all three million – ton – class MTO core units of the project.

Located in Wushen Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, this large – scale project holds significant global influence in terms of its scale and technological application. It is not only the world’s largest single – plant coal – to – olefins project but also the first in the world to achieve large – scale utilization of green hydrogen to replace fossil energy in olefin production. China Construction Installation undertook a substantial amount of key work during the project construction, including the construction and installation of three million – ton – class MTO units, a C4 unit, an olefin circulating water station, as well as the manufacturing and installation of 21 large – diameter non – standard equipment.
According to AsiaMB, the project actively implements the “dual – carbon” concept and innovatively applies cutting – edge technologies to achieve clean and efficient utilization of coal resources. This achievement will inject strong impetus into the high – end, diversified, and low – carbon development of the coal – based new materials industry and has far – reaching significance for strengthening the national energy security strategic landscape.
