April 20, 2025 – Invista, a global leader in the chemical intermediates, polymers, and fibers of the nylon and polypropylene value chains, has embarked on a new chapter in sustainable development certification. Following its successful market entry with the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC PLUS) system accreditation in 2024, Invista announced on April 16 its plan to expand the ISCC PLUS certification program, aiming to further strengthen its position in the sustainable materials sector.

It is reported that Invista’s two manufacturing sites, located in Victoria, Texas, USA, and Kingston, Ontario, Canada, successfully obtained their initial ISCC PLUS certifications in 2024 and are now set to undergo a new round of certification processes. Specifically, the Victoria facility will seek recertification for adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine (HMD) made from bio-based, circular, bio-circular, and renewable materials. Meanwhile, the Kingston site will focus on the recertification of nylon 6,6 polymers and fibers. Different from each other, bio-based, bio-circular, circular, and renewable materials are sourced from various channels, ranging from raw biomass and waste treatment to renewable energy applications. Such diverse material utilization demonstrates Invista’s multifaceted exploration of sustainable development.
In addition, Invista’s nylon 6,6 plants in Rozenburg, the Netherlands, and the Yinglong nylon 6,6 polymer plant in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, China, will apply for ISCC PLUS certification for their polymers for the first time. If these certifications are successfully achieved, Invista will become the first integrated supplier capable of producing ISCC PLUS-certified nylon 6,6 polymers in North America, Europe, and Asia, providing broader support of sustainable materials to global customers. Ethel Garnier, Invista’s Global Sustainability Director for Nylon, expressed delight at the success and expansion of the certification program, highlighting it as a significant milestone in the company’s development. The progress of this certification project benefits from the cooperation with Celanese North America. Invista supplies ISCC PLUS-certified adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine to Celanese, enabling the production of modified nylon 6,6 polymers that meet the sustainable requirements of downstream applications.
As a globally recognized certification system, ISCC PLUS rigorously verifies the origin and traceability of biomass and circular products through independent external audits and a mass balance approach, ensuring that the supply chain complies with environmental, social, and governance standards. Invista’s expansion of the ISCC PLUS certification program aligns with its “Stewardship Framework” concept and showcases the company’s firm commitment to reducing resource consumption and promoting sustainable development in the industry. Notably, last month, Invista introduced a new technology for recycling nylon 6,6 using post-consumer and post-industrial feedstocks, continuously injecting innovative momentum into sustainable development efforts.
