April 2, 2025 – Chongqing Runye New Material Co., Ltd. (Runye New Materials) has emerged as a global frontrunner in the realm of eco-friendly materials, thanks to its groundbreaking innovations. The company’s proprietary technology for 100% recycling and reuse of coffee grounds has not only secured its position as the exclusive supplier of speckled material for HP computer cases but also pioneered the application of “coffee grounds + recycled plastic” in all-in-one PC casings, marking an industry first. Furthermore, the “buckwheat husk plastic” jointly developed by Runye New Materials and Compal has clinched the prestigious 2025 iF Design Award in Germany, showcasing the company’s outstanding prowess in eco-material development.

Established in 2022, Runye New Materials is a high-tech enterprise jointly founded by Derun Environment, a subsidiary of Chongqing Water Environment Group, Suez (Hong Kong), and Gengye Technology. Amidst the fierce competition in the recycled plastic industry, Runye New Materials has carved its own path by tackling the challenging task of developing eco-friendly materials, focusing on integrating biomass with plastic polymers to create unique and environmentally friendly products.
According to the Color Masterbatch Industry Network, Runye New Materials encountered numerous hurdles during its R&D process. Take coffee grounds, for instance. This biomass naturally “repels” ABS plastic, making it extremely difficult to combine the two while meeting clients’ stringent requirements. However, Runye’s technical team didn’t back down. Through repeated experiments and process improvements, they ultimately overcame this challenge. In the second half of 2022, the first batch of samples successfully rolled off the production line and passed HP’s verification, entering the production phase.
Beyond coffee grounds, Runye New Materials has also explored the use of other agricultural and forestry waste, such as tea leaves and rice husks, in its eco-material R&D. Notably, the “buckwheat husk plastic” co-developed with Compal stands out for its exceptional performance, unique color-changing effect, aesthetic appeal, and cost-effectiveness. In March 2025, this material won the iF Award in Germany, earning Runye New Materials international acclaim.
Runye New Materials’ success is no fluke; it stems from its continuous investment in R&D and a commitment to innovation. The company allocates over 10% of its annual revenue to R&D and has applied for multiple invention patents. Additionally, Runye New Materials is expanding its product range to include physically recycled plastics, chemically recycled PET, and chemically recycled PC, among others, striving to provide customers with more comprehensive and efficient eco-friendly solutions.
Looking ahead, Runye New Materials will continue to uphold its innovative spirit, delving deeper into the field of eco-friendly materials to contribute to global sustainable development. Simultaneously, the company will actively expand into overseas markets, seek international certifications, broaden its product application scope, and open up new market opportunities.
