March 11, 2025 – Global chemical giant BASF’s Coatings division and NIO, a pioneer in the smart electric vehicle (EV) sector, officially announced the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) on March 10, marking a deep strategic collaboration in the automotive coatings field. This significant move signals that BASF and NIO will join forces to bring innovative changes to the body coatings of NIO’s electric vehicles.
The signing of the LoI lays a solid foundation and outlines a clear framework for future in-depth cooperation between BASF and NIO. The two parties will continuously explore and advance the specific implementation details of the collaboration through an annual strategic dialogue mechanism. Furthermore, they will jointly establish a comprehensive cooperation platform covering market and customer expansion, efficient project management, timely information exchange, and more.
According to AsiaMB’s understanding, as the core content of this strategic partnership, BASF’s Coatings division will provide NIO with a series of customized coating products. These products will not only meet NIO’s stringent technical performance requirements but also come with a range of value-added services. These services include, but are not limited to, color design and development, digital solution provision, sustainable development plan formulation, as well as professional seminars and technical support.
