Sinopec’s New Patent Paves Way for Olefin Polymerization Advancements

January 18, 2025 – Sinopec Unveils Revolutionary Olefin Polymerization Catalyst with New Patent

Sinopec (600028) has recently announced the acquisition of a new invention patent, titled “A Novel Olefin Polymerization Catalyst and Its Application,” officially granted on January 7, 2025.

This invention pertains to the preparation and application of olefin polymerization catalysts, distinguished by its unique composition and effectiveness. The catalyst comprises three essential parts: a solid catalyst component, a cocatalyst component, and an external electron donor. Notably, the solid catalyst component includes titanium, magnesium, and an internal electron donor, with the latter specifically utilizing silyl esters. The cocatalyst component consists of at least one organoaluminum compound, while the external electron donor is a compound with a specific structure.

According to AsiaMB’s insights into the color masterbatch industry, this newly invented olefin polymerization catalyst demonstrates exceptional catalytic activity during ethylene polymerization, exhibiting suitable hydrogen response sensitivity. Furthermore, its preparation process is relatively straightforward, making it highly suitable for ethylene slurry polymerization processes with tandem dual or multiple reactors. This innovation not only promises to bring about fresh technological breakthroughs in Sinopec’s olefin polymerization sector but also has the potential to inject new vitality into the entire chemical industry’s development.
