November 25, 2024 – A landmark agreement was recently signed in Zhengzhou between the Shancheng District Government of Hebi City, Henan Province, and Henan Biological Industry Group, marking a significant step forward in the field of bio-based new materials. The signing ceremony for the high-molecular-weight polylactic acid (HMW-PLA) demonstration project signifies a collaborative effort to push the boundaries of biotechnology and biomanufacturing.

Since its establishment in December 2023, Henan Biological Industry Group, initiated by Henan Investment Group Co., Ltd., has been actively deploying strategies in the core areas of bio-health and bio-based new materials. The group aims to become a leader in the domestic biotech and biomanufacturing industries, not only driving its own growth but also contributing to Henan Province’s aspirations of becoming a prominent hub for bio-manufacturing in China.
HMW-PLA, with its unique properties, is increasingly showcasing its advantages over traditional PLA. According to sources in the color masterbatch industry, HMW-PLA boasts higher viscosity, enabling it to excel in processing areas where traditional PLA falls short. This differentiated market strategy not only enhances the product’s value-added potential but also opens up vast application markets.
In the medical field, HMW-PLA’s non-toxic, anti-adhesion, bone-growth-inducing, and gradually degradable characteristics make it an ideal choice for orthopedic implants. For bottle blowing applications, it can produce highly transparent, thin-walled plastic containers, particularly suitable for products requiring short shelf life and low-temperature storage. Furthermore, in the realm of films and coating, HMW-PLA’s high viscosity significantly reduces production costs and increases efficiency. Notably, in the fishing net and line sector, products made from HMW-PLA offer transparency, strength, impact resistance, abrasion resistance, stability, and flexibility, positioning them as potential replacements for traditional synthetic fiber alternatives.
The signing of this cooperation agreement is poised to inject new vitality into the promotion and application of HMW-PLA, paving the way for innovative advancements in the bio-based materials industry.
