Dongming Petrochemical Achieves Breakthrough with World’s First E-POE Project

November 20, 2024 – Dongming Petrochemical Group (hereinafter referred to as “Dongming Petrochemical”) has announced exciting news: the world’s first 5,000-ton/year Ethylene-based Polyolefin Elastomer (E-POE) project has been successfully established, with the plant now ready for trial production. This landmark achievement signifies a solid step forward in breaking the foreign monopoly on POE technology and marks a significant technological breakthrough for China.

Dongming Petrochemical, in collaboration with Zhongke Kele, jointly propelled this innovative project. The project is backed by a research team led by Professor Chen Changle from the School of Chemistry and Material Science at the University of Science and Technology of China. Through intensive research, they successfully developed a new technology that directly produces polyolefin elastomers using ethylene as the sole raw material, combined with a self-developed nickel-based catalyst. This technological breakthrough not only frees China from the supply restrictions of higher α-olefins such as octene imposed by foreign countries but also paves a new path for the development of China’s polyolefin elastomer industry.

According to Color Masterbatch Industry News, Dongming Petrochemical’s E-POE project boasts notable advantages over traditional foreign POE technologies. It eliminates the need for high-cost higher α-olefins, significantly simplifying the production process, reducing the construction costs of supporting facilities, and lowering the overall project risks and investments. More importantly, the E-POE products produced using this technology exhibit superior performance, meeting the demands of various sectors including automotive parts, photovoltaic films, and seals, indicating broad application prospects. This innovation will not only bring substantial economic benefits to the company but also exert a profound impact on promoting the development of related industries in China and enhancing international competitiveness.

The successful completion of Dongming Petrochemical’s E-POE project stands as a testament to China’s research capabilities and serves as a powerful impetus for the high-quality development of the country’s chemical new materials industry. Looking ahead, with the continuous promotion and application of this technology, China is poised to occupy a more prominent position in the global polyolefin elastomer market.
