Sinopec Catalyst (Tianjin) Achieves Metallocene Polypropylene Catalyst Breakthrough

October 17, 2024 – Sinopec Catalyst (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. has announced exciting news with the successful industrial-scale amplification of its Metallocene Polypropylene PL01 catalyst. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the company. Earlier, the Metallocene Catalyst Team at the Polyethylene Research Institute also celebrated two consecutive breakthroughs: the first industrial-scale amplifications of the Metallocene Polyethylene Gas-phase EG02 catalyst and the Slurry ES02 catalyst, which were smoothly accomplished on September 25 and September 30, respectively. These production processes have exhibited stability, paving the way for subsequent long-term stable production.

Amidst the current efforts of the parent group to turn around its chemical business and tap into cost-saving potential, the Metallocene Catalyst Team at the Polyethylene Research Institute has responded actively by accelerating the integration of the industrial and innovation chains. They have conducted multiple in-depth visits to production sites, engaging in close exchanges with downstream manufacturers to jointly analyze the market prospects of polyolefin products. According to the Color Masterbatch Industry Network, the team has closely aligned the developed catalyst properties with the goal of maximizing the unique advantages of metallocene catalysts, aiming to break the long-standing foreign monopoly in this field.

Through these endeavors, the team has not only enhanced the industrial production level of the catalysts but also injected new vitality into China’s polyolefin industry. This underscores the crucial role of technological innovation in driving industrial upgrading.
