September 11, 2024 – Xinjiang Baofeng Coal-Based New Materials Co., Ltd. has recently made public the environmental impact assessment information for its demonstration project on clean and efficient coal conversion coupled with green hydrogen production of low-carbon chemicals and new materials. Located in the No.5 Chemical Industry Park of Jiangjunmiao Mining Area, Zhundong Economic and Technological Development Zone, Xinjiang, the project aims to achieve efficient and clean utilization of coal through advanced technological means, and produce a variety of low-carbon chemicals and new materials.

The project reportedly comprises multiple production units, including methanol synthesis, methanol-to-olefins, olefin separation, polypropylene, and polyethylene production lines, as well as supporting utilities, auxiliary works, and storage and transportation facilities. The product slate covers key products such as polyethylene, polypropylene, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, EVA, and PMMA, along with various by-products like sulfur, heavy carbon four, and ethylene tar.
As the implementing entity of the project, Xinjiang Baofeng Coal-Based New Materials Co., Ltd. was officially established on July 19th this year, fully owned by Baofeng Energy. Baofeng Energy boasts rich experience and technical prowess in the coal-to-olefins sector. Its Ningdong Phase III Olefins Project has been smoothly put into trial production and has successfully yielded qualified photovoltaic-grade EVA products. Additionally, the company is actively advancing the investment and construction of the Inner Mongolia Olefins Project and has completed the syndicated loan business processing, providing financial support for the project construction.
According to the Color Masterbatch Industry Network, this demonstration project not only helps enhance Baofeng Energy’s competitiveness in the coal-to-olefins industry but also positively impacts the clean and efficient development of the coal industry in the Xinjiang region. By adopting cutting-edge production processes and technological equipment, the project is expected to maximize the utilization of coal resources and minimize waste emissions, thereby contributing to the carbon neutrality goal.
It’s worth mentioning that Baofeng Energy has also intensified its R&D efforts during the reporting period, focusing on maintaining leading technologies in coal-to-olefins and exploring the development of photovoltaic-grade new products. These efforts have yielded significant results, with the company successfully developing various new polypropylene, polyethylene, and EVA products, offering more high-quality options to the market.
