Wanhua Chemical Partners with International Firms to Launch Special Polyolefin Project in Fujian

【Color Masterbatch Industry Network】July 25th news, Wanhua Chemical Group has announced a joint venture with international partners to build a special polyolefin project. Recently, Wanhua Chemical, together with Wanrong New Materials (Fujian) Co., Ltd., Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Borealis, and Borouge, signed a Project Cooperation Agreement in Beijing. This collaboration will focus on Fuzhou, Fujian Province, aiming to advance a 1.6 million tons per year integrated special polyolefin facility.

Under the agreement, ADNOC, Borealis, and Borouge will form an investment alliance with Wanrong New Materials, holding a 50%:50% share to conduct a feasibility study for the special polyolefin project. This initiative will leverage Borealis’ exclusive Borstar® polyolefin production technology, renowned for its unique polyethylene and polypropylene polymerization process. Borouge will provide solid support for the project based on its profound experience in special polyolefin production, while Wanhua Chemical will utilize its advantages in ethane raw material costs, dock resources, ethane transportation, and production processes to jointly drive the project’s success.

According to the Color Masterbatch Industry Network, polyolefin products produced using Borstar® technology exhibit significant competitive advantages due to their high strength, toughness, and heat resistance. This technology integrates special catalyst techniques, aiming to enhance the economic efficiency of plastics processing, with a focus on environmental indicators such as energy efficiency and raw material recycling. Additionally, it offers flexibility in producing polyethylene and polypropylene products with specific structures and compositions, catering to diverse application needs.

It’s worth mentioning that the core of Borstar® technology lies in its proprietary polyolefin multimodal process and unique catalyst technology. This enables more flexible polymer design from bimodal to multimodal PE/PP resins, resulting in polyethylene and polypropylene products with exceptional performance, further expanding the technology’s application scope.

This collaboration is expected to not only drive the development of the special polyolefin industry but also potentially bring new breakthroughs to the clean energy sector. Meanwhile, we look forward to seeing more developments and cutting-edge technologies in the clean energy field at the upcoming “2024 Shandong International Clean Energy Industry Expo,” scheduled for October 22-24, 2024, in Jinan.
