December 1, 2024 – Clariant Leads Industry Transformation with PFAS-Free Additive Portfolio
Clariant has successfully completed its transition to a fully PFAS-free additive portfolio by the end of 2023, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainability and customer-centric innovation. As global regulatory scrutiny over PFAS substances intensifies, Clariant’s proactive strategy underscores its forward-thinking approach and dedication to providing safer, more responsible solutions for the industry.

This transformation not only highlights Clariant’s precise understanding of customer needs and market trends but also demonstrates its long-standing pledge to environmental protection. By eliminating PFAS components from its additive portfolio, Clariant has maintained product performance while offering greener, more sustainable alternatives. This shift enables Clariant’s clients to navigate evolving regulatory requirements with ease and align with the growing trend of eco-friendly manufacturing worldwide.
Clariant has spared no effort in developing innovative PFAS-free additives. According to Color Masterbatch Industry News, the company has introduced a series of groundbreaking solutions, such as Ceridust 8170 M texture agent, specifically designed for powder coatings. This product, free from polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), outperforms traditional PTFE-containing counterparts while consuming less energy. Additionally, the newly launched Add Works PPA series of polymer processing aids has also excelled, effectively controlling melt fracture, enabling efficient extrusion, and ensuring optimal film quality. These additives perfectly align with the market’s urgent demand for more environmentally friendly solutions, ensuring strict compliance with environmental regulations in this application field.
Stefan Brech, Vice President of Clariant’s Global Coatings & Adhesives Business, commented on this innovation, “Our profound commitment to the chemical sector drives us to continuously explore and develop sustainable solutions that reduce environmental impact while meeting customers’ performance needs. The introduction of our PFAS-free additive portfolio is a testament to years of dedicated research and close collaboration with partners.”
Miao Zhigang, Vice President of Global Polymer Solutions, added, “We firmly believe that only by providing tomorrow’s solutions today can we remain competitive in the fiercely competitive market. By completely eliminating PFAS, we have not only addressed current regulatory challenges but also anticipated future industry trends, ensuring our customers maintain strong competitiveness and a high sense of responsibility.”
Looking ahead, Clariant plans to expand its portfolio of sustainable innovative products, with more exciting PFAS-free offerings scheduled for launch in 2025. The company will also forge closer interactions with customers through a series of digital experiences and strategic partnerships, sharing product insights and the latest developments to jointly drive the industry towards a greener, more sustainable future.
