Star Plastics®’s Latest PFAS – Free Polycarbonate Compounds Propel Its Environmental Leadership

May 13, 2025 – Star Plastics® has once again made remarkable strides in the realm of eco-friendly materials with the spectacular launch of six brand-new polycarbonate compounds. These cutting-edge products are entirely free of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), significantly expanding the company’s PFAS-free product portfolio. As a result, the total number of PFAS-free products in its lineup has now reached eight, encompassing both recycled and virgin material versions.

Among the newly introduced products, the reNova® PFAS-Free series has captured significant attention. According to the Color Masterbatch Industry Network, this series has added four new recycled compound products, all of which are molding-grade. They feature a higher Relative Thermal Index (RTI) and an f1-level outdoor weather resistance rating. Each product contains 50% pre-consumer recycled polycarbonate and has obtained UL 94 V-0 and V-2 ratings. Just like the original reNova products from Star Plastics®, they comply with halogen product standards. Additionally, the Orion® engineering resin series has welcomed new members. The three new products also meet the V-0 and V-2 rating standards, possess an f1-level UL outdoor weather resistance, and offer customized color services.

Chuck Hoop, the Business Director at Star, stated, “As numerous plastic material companies plan to phase out all PFAS-containing products by the end of 2025 or 2026, Star Plastics® takes the lead by introducing these compound products and will continue to expand its product range in the future. This not only provides processors with more environmentally friendly product options, but the reNova® recycled resin series also enables them to deliver eco-friendly products to their customers.” James Holland, the Development Manager, also emphasized, “Being PFAS-free isn’t merely about following industry trends. It’s a consistent philosophy of Star Plastics®. Since its establishment, the company has been deeply rooted in the recycling field. Now, by offering environmentally friendly alternative materials, we assist our customers in achieving innovation and sustainable development in their product applications, ensuring they are aware that their product formulations are more environmentally advantageous than PFAS-containing counterparts.”
