April 29, 2025 – A significant milestone has been reached in India’s plastic recycling and waste management sector. On April 28, Srichakra Polyplast, a renowned Indian enterprise, announced the official commissioning of two advanced PET bottle-to-bottle recycling lines at its plant on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Sourced from Austrian firm Starlinger, these new lines have tripled Srichakra’s annual production capacity of food-grade recycled PET (rPET), surging from 14,000 tons to 42,000 tons, and further solidifying its leading position in India’s rPET market.

Established in 2010, Srichakra Polyplast has long specialized in transforming post-consumer plastics into high-quality recycled PET and polyolefin granules, with its products widely used in the packaging industry. The company holds several prestigious international certifications, including approvals from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), making it the first in India to achieve food-grade plastic recycling certification. The newly added recoSTAR PET 165 HC iV+ recycling lines, equipped with the viscoSTAR 180 solid-state viscosity increase system, can efficiently process post-consumer PET bottles, producing rPET granules that meet food contact standards. These new facilities not only boost production capacity but also enhance product quality stability and safety, precisely catering to the demand for high-quality recycled materials in the food and beverage packaging industry.
“With the implementation of India’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy, which requires brand owners and manufacturers to use at least 30% post-consumer recycled PET in beverage bottles by 2025, the demand for rPET in India is skyrocketing,” said the Managing Director and Co-Founder of Srichakra Polyplast. “We remain committed to providing high-quality recycled materials to help our partners achieve their sustainability goals.”
According to AsiaMB, India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change issued EPR guidelines in 2022 stipulating that, starting April 1, 2025, beverage manufacturers must incorporate at least 30% recycled plastics in their rigid plastic packaging, with the percentage increasing by 10% annually. This policy has spurred rapid growth in India’s recycling industry but also raised the bar for recyclers in terms of production capacity and technology. Srichakra Polyplast’s addition of these new recycling lines is a crucial response to both policy trends and market demands, and is expected to inject new vitality into India’s plastic recycling and sustainable packaging industries.
