Sichuan Yongying’s 800,000-Ton Functional New Material Project Gears Up for Trial Production

August 19, 2024 – The installation of equipment and piping is currently underway for Sichuan Yongying’s 800,000-ton annual functional new material integrated industrial chain project. Reports indicate that the project is expected to enter the trial production phase in mid-October and is anticipated to officially commence operations by the end of this year.

This large-scale project by Sichuan Yongying, primarily utilizing natural gas as its raw material, focuses on the production of green chemical products. Adopting a strategy of overall planning and step-by-step implementation, the initiative aims to establish an integrated industrial park combining green energy and new chemical materials in the central and western regions. Notably, this is the largest single investment project in the industrial sector of Nanchong, with a total investment of 33 billion yuan.

The core components of the project encompass a 600,000-ton per year BDO (1,4-butanediol), a 500,000-ton per year PBAT (polybutylene adipate terephthalate), and a 300,000-ton per year spandex production facility. The entire project is divided into three phases: the first phase will establish a production scale of 300,000 tons of BDO, 60,000 tons of PBAT, and 60,000 tons of PTMEG (polytetramethylene ether glycol) per year; the second phase will increase BDO production by an additional 300,000 tons per year; and the third phase will utilize the BDO produced in the first and second phases as raw materials to further extend downstream production, completing the construction of the remaining PBAT, PTMEG, and spandex facilities.

According to the Color Masterbatch Industry Network, the implementation of this project will not only drive industrial development in the Nanchong region but also have a profound impact on the green chemical industry in the central and western regions. By introducing advanced production technology and equipment, the project aims to achieve an efficient and environmentally friendly production model, thereby contributing to the development of China’s green chemical industry.

Furthermore, this project has garnered significant attention since the signing of the investment agreement on April 11, 2022. On June 30, 2022, the first phase of the Yongying New Materials 800,000-ton annual functional new material integrated industrial chain project officially commenced construction in the Nanchong Economic Development Zone, marking the official launch of this ambitious initiative. As the project progresses, it is believed that it will soon become a powerful force driving local economic development.
