Shandong Xianghai Titanium Invests in Major Expansion of Titanium Dioxide Production

September 09, 2024 – Shandong Xianghai Titanium Resources Technology Co., Ltd. is embarking on a massive investment plan to ramp up its titanium dioxide production capabilities. The company intends to invest 4.5 billion yuan to establish a new material project with an annual output of 300,000 tons of titanium dioxide produced via the chloride process. This ambitious project will occupy approximately 538.65 acres and is expected to have a total construction area of 184,100 square meters. It includes three production lines for the chloride process of titanium dioxide, each with a capacity of 100,000 tons per year.

Titanium dioxide, recognized as an exceptional inorganic pigment and chemical raw material, is highly valued for its chemical stability, heat resistance, weather resistance, as well as its remarkable whiteness, tinting strength, and covering power. It finds applications in multiple industries, with pigment-grade titanium dioxide being essential in coatings, papermaking, plastics, and more. Meanwhile, non-pigment grade titanium dioxide is primarily utilized in the manufacture of enamel, capacitors, and other products.

According to the Color Masterbatch Industry Network, this undertaking will not only significantly boost Xianghai Titanium’s production capacity for titanium dioxide but also help bridge the supply gap for high-end rutile titanium dioxide in China. Rutile titanium dioxide, renowned for its high gloss, weather resistance, and dispersibility, holds promising market potential in premium automobiles, high-speed trains, and ocean-going containers. Furthermore, the project will generate a range of by-products, including titanium tetrachloride, hydrochloric acid, and sodium hypochlorite solution, which are expected to provide additional revenue streams for the company.

Xianghai Titanium’s substantial investment is poised to reinforce its position in the domestic titanium dioxide market and propel the development of the entire titanium dioxide industry, meeting the growing demand both domestically and internationally. By adopting advanced chloride process production techniques, the company aims to deliver high-quality rutile titanium dioxide, further strengthening its competitiveness in the global market.
