Recycled Plastics: Paving the Way for a Greener Chemical Industry

September 03, 2024 – In recent years, with the rising awareness of environmental protection, recycled plastics have gained increasing popularity in the chemical industry, attracting the attention of numerous chemical giants and renowned brands. Advances in additive technology have significantly enhanced the polymerization degree of virgin plastics, resulting in redundant performance during initial use. This leaves a portion of the plastic’s capabilities unused even after disposal, paving the way for plastic recycling.

During the plastic recycling process, mixing 50%-80% of new materials makes it easier to meet product performance requirements. This innovative application system not only facilitates the recycling of plastics but also promotes more advanced and environmentally friendly original-level recycling scenarios.

Recycled plastics exhibit strong potential in various fields. In injection molding, such as automotive plastics and electronic appliance casings, materials like r-ABS, r-PP, and r-PC can be used as substitutes. For components with no specific appearance requirements, recycled plastics can directly replace virgin plastics. For parts with higher aesthetic standards, dual-layer injection molding, where the surface uses virgin plastic and the interior is filled with recycled plastic, can satisfy both aesthetic and functional needs.

Furthermore, in the field of chemical fiber spinning, recycled chemical fibers made from waste beverage bottles and fishing nets have garnered widespread market attention and preference. These recycled fibers, with their excellent performance, meet the demands of various textiles and are widely used in clothing, decorative materials, and industrial supplies.

Moreover, recycled plastics show broad application prospects in blow molding, extrusion molding, film blowing, and foaming products. Especially in non-food contact bottles and containers, the use of recycled plastics has become a trend. Prominent brands like L’Oreal Group have already begun promoting the use of recycled plastics to achieve their sustainable goals.

It’s worth mentioning that the ChinaReplas 30th China Plastics Recycling and Regeneration Conference & The 7th China International Plastics Recycling Exhibition will take place from October 22nd to 25th, 2024. This conference will focus on multiple hot topics and feature several forums to discuss the innovative applications and future development of recycled plastics.

According to the Color Masterbatch Industry Network, with the continuous development of recycled plastic technology and the steady growth of market demand, it is anticipated that recycled plastics will find broader applications in more areas, significantly contributing to the green development of the chemical industry.
