Portugal’s IMG Group Invests €30M in Lithuania’s Sustainable PET Film Plant

June 11, 2025 – Portugal’s IMG Group Launches Groundbreaking PET Film Plant in Lithuania

AsiaMB reports Evertis, a subsidiary of Portugal’s IMG Group, is making a strategic €30 million investment to establish an advanced PET film manufacturing facility in Lithuania’s Klaipėda Free Economic Zone. The project, backed by a €25 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, represents a significant leap in sustainable packaging technology.

The innovative plant will utilize cutting-edge production methods to create PET films containing up to 50% recycled content – far exceeding current EU requirements. Industry experts estimate this eco-friendly packaging solution could eliminate 13,000 tons of plastic waste annually while reducing carbon emissions by approximately 29,000 tons.

The Lithuanian location offers strategic advantages, with Klaipėda’s established plastics cluster providing robust supply chain support. The facility will incorporate full Industry 4.0 capabilities, optimizing production efficiency through smart manufacturing systems. This expansion complements IMG Group’s parallel $100 million investment in South Carolina, signaling a global push to meet soaring demand for circular packaging solutions.

“This investment underscores our commitment to the color masterbatch industry’s sustainable transformation,” an IMG spokesperson told AsiaMB. The Lithuanian operation is expected to create 50 high-tech jobs while serving growing European demand for environmentally responsible packaging in food and beverage sectors. Market analysts predict such developments will accelerate adoption of high-performance recycled materials across the packaging value chain.
