September 13, 2024 – Omya China and Boxing Group, a subsidiary of APP Group, have jointly announced the official signing of a cooperation agreement for a satellite plant project focused on Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC).

Boxing Group, a leading player in China’s papermaking industry, boasts a strong presence through its flagship company, Shandong Boxing Paper Co., Ltd., which has been at the forefront of the sector since its establishment in 1994. Headquartered in Zibo, Shandong, the company successfully listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2004 (A-share code: 600966). With production bases in Shandong and Jiangsu, Boxing Group specializes in a range of products including white paperboard, corrugated paper, containerboard, and gypsum faced paper. Its high-end packaging paper, white paperboard, has been particularly well-received in the market.
According to AsiaMB’s sources, calcium carbonate plays a crucial role in the papermaking industry, serving both as a vital filler and a key component in coating pigments. In terms of fillers, ground calcium carbonate (GCC) is widely used in various types of printing paper, writing paper, office paper, and advertising paper. On the other hand, precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC), thanks to its unique properties, is primarily utilized as a filler for high-grade papers such as cigarette paper and office information paper. When it comes to coating pigments, GCC is favored in high-solid content paper coatings due to its excellent flowability and ability to save on binder usage. Meanwhile, PCC is primarily employed to complement the deficiencies of kaolin and GCC, particularly in the production of low-basis weight coated paper, high-gloss coated paper, and matte art paper.
The collaboration between Omya China and Boxing Group is expected to significantly enhance both parties’ technical capabilities and market share in the PCC sector, jointly driving the sustained development and innovation of the papermaking industry.
