October 21, 2024 – Nanzhao County, situated in Nanyang City, Henan Province, has transformed from a region where mountains and stones were once overlooked into a thriving hub for the calcium carbonate industry. The stones found here undergo meticulous processing and grinding, metamorphosing into raw materials for various pipelines, which find extensive applications in water supply, drainage, and power sectors, among others. These products have even ventured beyond national borders, reaching markets in Asia and Africa. This transformation has not only birthed a new industry but also fueled the robust development of the entire industrial chain, injecting a potent impetus into Nanzhao County’s pursuit of high-quality economic growth.
Leveraging its abundant calcium carbonate resources, Nanzhao County has soared to become the fourth-largest calcium carbonate mineral base in China and the largest in central China. In recent years, the county has prioritized clustered development as the linchpin for driving the transformation and upgrading of the calcium carbonate industry. Efforts are dedicated to cultivating leading enterprises, enhancing the industry’s influence and competitiveness, and striving to establish a new building materials industrial base with a production value exceeding ten billion yuan, further solidifying its reputation as the “Calcium Capital of China.”

According to AsiaMB’s sources, Nanzhao County boasts rich reserves of calcite, totaling approximately one billion tons, with over 50 million tons suitable for producing food-grade calcium carbonate powder. Presently, the county’s calcium carbonate industry chain has expanded from sole powder processing to high-value-added products such as artificial quartz stone, plastic modification, functional masterbatches, paints and coatings, plastic profiles, and PVC building materials, with the clustering effect becoming increasingly evident.
Henan Xintai Calcium Industry Co., Ltd., a pioneer in Nanzhao County’s calcium carbonate industry, has relied on local resource advantages since its establishment in 2002 to propel the ultrafine, ultrapure, functional, composite, and industrial development of calcium carbonate products. After more than 20 years of endeavors, the company has evolved into a national high-tech enterprise and a national specialized and refined “Little Giant” enterprise, assuming the leadership role in Henan Province’s Calcium Carbonate Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance.
Liu Wuying, Chairman of Henan Xintai Calcium Industry Co., Ltd., emphasizes the company’s commitment to developing the entire calcium carbonate industry chain. Recently, the company successfully introduced Henan Sanjishu Paint Co., Ltd., and invested in the establishment of Henan Yusu Pipe Industry Co., Ltd., now possessing over 150 domestic and imported production lines for powders, paints, and pipes. Within the production workshop of Henan Yusu Pipe Industry Co., Ltd. in Nanzhao County’s Advanced Manufacturing Development Zone, machines roar as PE double-wall corrugated water supply pipes are produced under tension. These pipes, formulated with special calcium carbonate for plastic pipes, exhibit higher strength, toughness, and stability, ensuring a longer service life.
Furthermore, Nanzhao County has attracted renowned enterprises such as Beijing Oriental Yuhong Company, Jiangxi Guangyuan Chemical Co., Ltd., and the China Energy Construction Kanghui Green Building Materials Project to settle and invest in factory construction. These enterprises utilize calcium carbonate powders to produce downstream products like paints, pipes, boards, quartz stones, and plastic masterbatches, collectively propelling the growth of the new building materials industry and forming an integrated industrial chain encompassing “mine extraction – powder processing – building materials, pipes, and paints.” Today, Nanzhao County’s calcium carbonate industrial cluster stands as one of the 13 distinctive industrial clusters in Henan Province.
Currently, Nanzhao County is home to two upstream calcium carbonate mining enterprises, 242 midstream powder processing enterprises, and 22 downstream product processing enterprises, spanning sectors such as quartz stones, pipes, stone paints, and road marking paints. As the industrial chain continues to extend, the clustering effect of Nanzhao County’s calcium carbonate industry becomes more pronounced. Numerous enterprises, leveraging local resources, have established a comprehensive industrial system encompassing multiple downstream products through independent research and technological upgrades.
