April 30, 2025 – Mitsubishi Chemical Unveils Ambitious Capacity Expansion Plans for Flame – Retardant Functional Resins in China and France
Mitsubishi Chemical, a global titan in the chemical industry, has recently made significant moves in its production capacity layout. In a strategic bid to align with market trends and meet the surging demands of various industries, the company has decided to simultaneously launch capacity expansion initiatives for flame – retardant functional resins in China and France. With an investment of billions of Japanese yen, this expansion aims to provide more substantial raw material support to the automotive sector and other industries.

The flame – retardant functional resins that Mitsubishi Chemical is focusing on in this expansion play a crucial role across multiple fields, particularly in the protection materials for automotive cables. As the automotive industry continues to innovate, especially with the increasing degree of electrification, the demand for cable protection materials per vehicle has soared. Concurrently, the industry has imposed more stringent requirements on performance indicators such as flame retardancy and heat resistance. Against this backdrop, Mitsubishi Chemical’s decision to expand the production capacity of flame – retardant functional resin products like polyolefins is well – timed.
According to the Color Masterbatch Industry Network, this capacity expansion marks a milestone for Mitsubishi Chemical’s operations in China. It will be the first time that its Chinese factory engages in the production of flame – retardant functional resins. Currently, the company has already initiated the expansion of its existing factory, and the new production lines are expected to commence operation in the near future. In France, thanks to the pre – established production foundation, the expansion process is set to proceed more smoothly. As planned, a new production line will be added to the French factory in January 2026, further boosting the production capacity of flame – retardant functional resins to cater to the demands of the European and global markets.
Although Mitsubishi Chemical has not yet disclosed specific data on the expected increase in production capacity, it is foreseeable that with the successive commissioning of new production lines in its Chinese and French factories, the landscape of the global flame – retardant functional resin market may witness significant changes. This expansion is not only expected to alleviate the current tight supply situation of such products in the market but also drive technological upgrades in related industries, including automotive and electronics, steering the industry towards a path of higher quality, enhanced safety, and greater reliability. In the future, Mitsubishi Chemical’s performance in the field of flame – retardant functional resins will undoubtedly remain a focal point of attention for the entire industry.
