July 22 news, BASF’s Coatings division has recently announced the renewal of its agreement to source 100% renewable electricity for its automotive OEM coatings manufacturing facilities in Shanghai, China. This significant milestone underscores the division’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental impact.

Through a variety of methods, including Renewable Direct Power Purchase (R-DPP), International Renewable Energy Certificates, and other eco-friendly measures, BASF Coatings will continue to power its Shanghai Minhang and Caojing coating sites, as well as the resin plant in Caojing, entirely with renewable electricity. This shift to green energy aligns with the company’s broader sustainability goals and aspirations.

According to BASF Coatings, this agreement further highlights its dedication to empowering automotive OEM customers to enhance their environmental performance. Jack Zou, Vice President of Global Key Account Management Asia Pacific OEMs at BASF, emphasized that every drop of coating produced by the company reflects its unwavering commitment to sustainability. “By utilizing 100% renewable electricity in our manufacturing processes in China, we are assisting the Chinese automotive industry in reducing the product carbon footprint of its vehicles and supporting our customers in achieving their sustainability objectives. We strive to be not just a provider of high-quality automotive coatings, but also a preferred partner for the automotive industry in its sustainability journey in China,” Zou stated.
