December 1, 2024 – Xinjiang Xinye Energy & Chemical Co., Ltd. Achieves Major Milestone with Successful Launch of 200,000 TPA BDO Phase II Project
Xinjiang Xinye Energy & Chemical Co., Ltd. has announced the successful startup of its 200,000 tons per annum (TPA) 1,4-Butanediol (BDO) Phase II project on November 27, following 18 months of rigorous construction and three months of meticulous testing. The project has successfully produced its first batch of high-quality BDO with a purity level of 99.75%, marking a crucial breakthrough in the company’s modern coal chemical-to-high-end new materials industrial base.

As a key engineering project of the Corps and the city, the initiative aligns closely with the “two-zone linkage” and “one-circle, four-chain” industrial development strategy, playing a vital role in accelerating the development of coal, coal-fired power, and coal chemical clusters. With a total investment of 1.8 billion yuan, the project encompasses the construction of ethylene oxide units, formaldehyde units, BDO units, and auxiliary facilities such as process piping and pipe racks. Upon full completion, the project is expected to generate an annual output value of 1.17 billion yuan, providing a strong impetus to regional economic growth.
It is worth noting that Xinye’s 200,000 TPA BDO Phase I project was successfully completed and commenced operation in 2019. The stable performance and excellent product quality have garnered widespread market acclaim. Building on this success, the company initiated the Phase II project in February 2023, laying a solid foundation for its industrial upgrading, diversification, and low-carbon development. According to Color Masterbatch Industry Network, the successful commissioning of the BDO project not only signifies the full completion of the company’s modern coal chemical-to-high-end new materials industrial base but also paves the way for its future expansion into high-end new materials.
Throughout the lifecycle of the BDO project, Xinye has adhered to the principles of environmental protection and resource conservation, integrating these values into project planning, implementation, evaluation, and completion. The project has implemented comprehensive harmless treatment for volatile organic waste gases, with non-methane volatile organic compound emissions controlled below 20 milligrams per standard cubic meter, reaching domestic leading levels. Additionally, all ethylene oxide and hydrogen tail gases are fully recovered, maximizing resource utilization. Furthermore, the adoption of a single-train design for the BDO distillation unit has reduced energy consumption by approximately 10%, enhancing the product’s competitiveness in the market.
Located within the expanded East Industrial Park of Wujiaqu Industrial Zone, Xinjiang Xinye’s 200,000 TPA BDO fine chemical and supporting project boasts an overall construction scale of 500,000 TPA methanol, 200,000 TPA BDO, 100,000 TPA methanol-to-mixed aromatics, and 192,000 TPA liquefied natural gas. The Phase I project, with a capacity of 60,000 TPA BDO, has been operational since 2019. The Phase II project, with an investment of 2 billion yuan, has now successfully commenced production. Upon reaching full capacity, the 200,000 TPA BDO project is expected to generate an annual output value of 2.2 billion yuan, a net profit of 700 million yuan, and create over 100 job opportunities, contributing positively to the local economic and social development.
