From Shanghai to Semarang: Zhanchen’s Indonesian Factory Marks New Era in Global Coating Strategy

May 15, 2025 – Zhanchen New Materials Unveils Southeast Asia Expansion with Indonesia Production Hub Launch

A pivotal milestone in Southeast Asia’s coating industry emerged on May 13 as Zhanchen New Materials officially commenced operations at its third overseas manufacturing facility in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. Strategically located within the Kawasan Industrial Park, the plant marks a significant leap in the Chinese coating giant’s globalization strategy.

The inauguration ceremony brought together Zhanchen’s senior executives, representatives from the Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (APKINDO), Kawasan Industrial Park management, and key clients. As Zhanchen’s third R&D and manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia—following Vietnam (2017) and Thailand (2023)—the Indonesian plant is positioned to serve as a regional supply chain anchor.

In his address, Zhanchen Chairman Chen Bing underscored Indonesia’s strategic importance as the world’s fourth-most populous nation, emphasizing the new facility’s role in delivering localized coating solutions tailored to Southeast Asian markets. His remarks echoed those of Kawasan Industrial Park representative Sigit Riyadi, who hailed Zhanchen’s arrival as a catalyst for regional industrial upgrading.

APKINDO President Dedy highlighted Zhanchen’s technological leadership in China’s furniture coating sector, noting its potential to energize local innovation ecosystems. Client representative Xu Qing, reflecting on the “two-year journey from a Shanghai showroom to an Indonesian factory,” praised the company’s execution speed. Indonesian engineer Ariel, citing Zhanchen’s inclusive corporate culture and innovation-driven ethos, explained why he joined the team.

Zhanchen Overseas Business Unit General Manager Li Xushan outlined four commitments to partners: compliance with local regulations, guaranteed product delivery, enhanced customer service, and localized talent development. He also revealed plans to establish manufacturing bases in Mexico and Ghana by 2025, aligning with the group’s “Decade Vision” to create a global network of seven production hubs.

As the ribbon-cutting ceremony concluded, Zhanchen’s internationalization journey gained fresh momentum. The company, guided by its “Innovation-Driven Growth” philosophy, is building a two-way corridor for technology export and market expansion along the Belt and Road Initiative. Industry analysts suggest its localized “technology + service” model could serve as a blueprint for Chinese enterprises seeking global growth.
