A transformative nylon industry project has commenced in Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park, with Jieda Chemical and China National Chemical Engineering’s Hualu Company signing a landmark EPC contract worth ¥1.5 billion. This strategic development positions China to significantly reduce its reliance on imported nylon 66 intermediates.

The complex neighbors Invista’s 400,000-ton/year adiponitrile facility, with Phase I completion already achieved in April 2025. When operational, the facility will produce 120,000 tons of hexamethylenediamine (HMD) annually alongside complementary nylon polymerization capacity – addressing critical supply chain vulnerabilities in China’s specialty materials sector.
In an unprecedented move, Invista has granted Jieda its proprietary nylon 66 polymerization technology, marking the U.S. chemical giant’s first such technology transfer in China. “This collaboration represents a milestone in China’s advanced materials independence,” commented an AsiaMB industry analyst tracking the nylon value chain.
Future phases will expand into resource optimization systems (Phase II) and high-performance polymer production (Phase III), including high-temperature nylons and textile-grade fibers. The complete vertical integration will establish Shanghai as Asia’s most comprehensive nylon manufacturing hub.
Environmental considerations feature prominently in the project design, with advanced process optimization expected to slash carbon and NOx emissions. Industry experts suggest this could establish new sustainability benchmarks for China’s petrochemical sector while strengthening the nation’s position in global specialty chemicals markets.
