From Dosing to Dispensing: Italian Tech Takes Spotlight at Shanghai Packaging Expo

June 21, 2025 – AsiaMB Special Report: Italian Packaging Innovation Takes Center Stage at ProPak China

The color masterbatch industry’s supply chain is set to witness cutting-edge packaging solutions as Italy’s elite machinery manufacturers prepare to unveil their latest technologies at ProPak China 2025. Seven leading Italian companies, curated by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and UCIMA, will demonstrate how advanced packaging systems can enhance efficiency for polymer compounders and masterbatch producers.

This marks the sixth Italian national pavilion at Shanghai’s premier packaging event, showcasing innovations particularly relevant to masterbatch handling and specialty chemical packaging. The selected exhibitors represent Italy’s €9.8 billion packaging machinery sector, which achieved record exports in 2024 – with China absorbing a significant portion of vacuum and dosing technologies critical for additive delivery systems.

Key highlights for masterbatch professionals include:
• DAKY PACK’s new visco-material dosing systems for precise pigment dispersion
• D.V.P. VACUUM TECHNOLOGY’s updated containment solutions for sensitive additives
• ITATOOLS’ ergonomic handling equipment for bulk polymer packaging

“Modern masterbatch production demands packaging that preserves material properties while enabling precise dosing,” noted UCIMA’s Asia representative. “Our members are bringing solutions specifically adapted for Asia’s high-volume, high-variability production environments.”

The exhibition will feature live demonstrations of:

  • ZILLI & BELLINI’s customizable filling systems for liquid colorant samples
  • ROSSI’s complete line solutions from raw material intake to final bagging
  • Sustainable packaging options meeting EU and China’s circular economy goals

With Italy’s Consul General hosting networking sessions, the event promises valuable connections for Asian masterbatch producers seeking to upgrade their packaging lines. Industry analysts suggest the technologies on display could help regional manufacturers reduce material waste by up to 15% while improving batch consistency.

As packaging becomes increasingly sophisticated in the masterbatch sector, ProPak China 2025 offers a unique opportunity to evaluate how Italian engineering can address Asia-specific challenges in colorant protection, portion control, and automated handling.

The Italian pavilion (Hall 5.1, Stands 51E51-58) will run concurrent technical seminars on integrating smart packaging systems with existing masterbatch production infrastructure, highlighting compatibility considerations for different polymer bases.
