January 24, 2025 – China’s Ministry of Commerce Reaffirms Stance on Potential US Tariffs
On the afternoon of January 23rd, the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) of China held its regular press conference. In response to remarks that the US might impose a 10% tariff on China starting from February 1st, MOFCOM spokesperson He Yadong expressed China’s firm stance. He emphasized that tariff measures are detrimental to both China and the US, as well as the global economy, a viewpoint China has consistently upheld.

He Yadong stated that China is willing to work hand in hand with the US, based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, to promote the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of Sino-US economic and trade relations. This stance reflects China’s high regard and positive attitude towards Sino-US economic and trade ties.
According to industry insights from Color Masterbatch Industry Network, the proposed tariff policies announced by Trump upon his return to office, along with the “weaponization” of trade, have garnered widespread attention both domestically and internationally. Multiple institutions and experts, both at home and abroad, have conducted forecasts and analyses on the potential policies that may emerge in the Trump 2.0 era and their possible impacts on China’s economy. Some experts pointed out that while the policies towards China in the Trump 2.0 era may become more complex and unpredictable, China will continue to adhere to its own stance, actively address various challenges, and promote the healthy development of Sino-US economic and trade relations.
