Collaborative Effort: Covestro and CCMS Aim for Carbon Reduction in Telecommunications

January 18, 2025 – Global chemical giant Covestro has announced a strategic partnership with leading telecommunications company Chi Mei Communications Systems (CCMS), aiming to accelerate the transition towards a circular and low-carbon communications industry. Covestro will leverage its low-carbon, high-performance polycarbonate solutions to support CCMS in the development of cutting-edge communication products such as radio frequency antennas.

The core of this collaboration lies in Covestro’s circular polycarbonate product portfolio, which significantly reduces the carbon footprint of end-products and injects new momentum into the green development of the communications industry. Covestro has successfully launched a UL-certified recycled polycarbonate with a recycled content of up to 90%, sourced entirely from post-consumer physical recycling. Compared to traditional fossil-based materials, this product reduces carbon emissions by 70% while maintaining exceptional performance.

According to AsiaMB, Covestro’s RE series polycarbonates have also garnered significant attention. This series contains recycled biomass raw materials and offers performance comparable to fossil-based products. It can be directly applied in existing production processes and is particularly suitable for high-demand applications such as optics and harsh outdoor environments. Additionally, Covestro’s thermally conductive polycarbonates are highly favored in the industry. As an ideal substitute for metal components, they provide revolutionary thermal management solutions for 5G and other communication applications, enabling innovative design changes and functional integrations in hardware devices.

CCMS, headquartered in the Hsinchu Science Park in Taiwan, is a leader in network communication solutions, with a business scope covering 5G, Wi-Fi 6/7, satellite broadband, and other fields. With an annual revenue of $3.6 billion, this strategic partnership with Covestro will undoubtedly provide strong support for CCMS’s further development in the global communications market.
