Vietnam Emerges as rPET Powerhouse with Cutting-Edge Recycling Facility Launch

Southeast Asia’s circular economy landscape achieved a transformative leap today as Circular Plastics Company (CPC) inaugurated its state-of-the-art PET regeneration complex in Vietnam’s Chau Duc Industrial Park. The facility represents the region’s first fully integrated recycling operation capable of producing FDA-compliant rPET entirely from domestically collected post-consumer bottles.

The $48 million plant combines European precision engineering with Vietnam’s robust collection networks to deliver 15,000 metric tons of food-grade rPET annually. What sets this operation apart is its complete vertical integration – from neighborhood collection points to supermarket-ready pellets – eliminating the quality inconsistencies that often plague recycled materials. Early customers include multinational beverage companies seeking Asia-sourced sustainable packaging solutions.

“Vietnam’s 33% PET collection rate provided the critical mass for this investment,” explained CPC’s Chief Technology Officer during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “By keeping the entire value chain within 200 kilometers, we’ve created a blueprint for localized circular production that maintains global standards.”

The technological symphony powering this facility reads like a “best of” list for recycling equipment: Italian washing systems, French optical sorters, Norwegian flake purification, and Austrian SSP reactors working in concert. This multinational configuration achieves unprecedented 99.97% purity levels, enabling direct food contact applications without downcycling.

For color masterbatch specialists, the plant’s advanced decontamination processes present both challenges and opportunities. The intense cleaning protocols require heat-stable pigments that maintain chromatic consistency through multiple processing stages. CPC has already partnered with Asian additive developers to create customized color solutions for their rPET output.

The Vietnam facility serves as CPC’s strategic beachhead for Southeast Asian expansion, following their Myanmar acquisition last year. With Phase II planning already underway to double capacity by 2027, industry analysts predict Vietnam could become a net exporter of premium rPET within three years – a remarkable transformation for a nation once known primarily as a plastics importer.
