CCEC’s Petrochemical and Clean Energy Projects Reshape Central Asia’s Industrial Landscape

June 25, 2025 –

China Chemical Engineering Group (CCEC) has achieved remarkable breakthroughs across Central Asia, coinciding with the Second China-Central Asia Summit. The state-owned enterprise has been transforming the region’s industrial landscape through cutting-edge chemical engineering projects.

Pioneering Petrochemical Projects Reshape Kazakhstan

CCEC’s Integrated Petrochemical Complex (IPCI) in Kazakhstan represents a historic milestone as the country’s first large-scale chemical facility using Chinese proprietary technology. The complex features a 500,000-ton-per-year propane dehydrogenation unit and polypropylene plant. Industry analysts from AsiaMB note this development will significantly reduce Kazakhstan’s reliance on imported petrochemical products. Another transformative project, the Kazakh Chemical Complex, is establishing a modern production base expected to generate over 2,400 skilled jobs while enhancing local technical expertise.

Clean Energy Initiatives Gain Momentum

During President Xi Jinping’s state visit, CCEC secured a groundbreaking coal-to-gas conversion agreement that introduces China’s advanced coal chemical technology to Kazakhstan. This strategic partnership enables efficient transformation of coal resources into cleaner energy alternatives. The company’s ACC Nitrogen Fertilizer Complex further demonstrates China’s technological prowess, utilizing domestically developed urea production technology to challenge Western dominance in this sector.

PVC Breakthroughs and Sustainable Solutions

In Uzbekistan, CCEC’s Navoi PVC Complex earned China’s prestigious Luban Prize for construction excellence, successfully eliminating the nation’s complete dependence on imported polyvinyl chloride products. Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan’s inaugural modern fertilizer plant, built with environmentally friendly processes by CCEC, has successfully penetrated Central Asian markets. These landmark projects exemplify successful technology transfer under the Belt and Road Initiative while fostering regional economic growth through sustainable industrial development.
