Cabot Unveils Two New Sustainable Black Master Batch Products

June 24, 2024 – Cabot Corporation has recently announced the launch of two new REPLASBLAK® universal black master batch products, both incorporating sustainable materials that have been certified by ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification). These novel offerings, introduced through Cabot’s EVOLVE® sustainable solutions technology platform, underscore the company’s dedication to providing sustainably certified solutions in the plastics industry, renowned for their exceptional performance, premium quality, and unwavering reliability.

As the global shift towards a low-carbon society accelerates, there is a growing demand for advanced sustainable solutions that contribute to a circular economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In response to this trend, modifiers and processors in the automotive plastics industry are seeking black master batch products that can integrate into the circular value chain, utilize recycled materials, and carry third-party certification. Addressing this market need, Cabot has successfully developed these two new universal black master batches using physically regenerated polymers.

According to the Color Master Batch Industry Network, the new products, named REPLASBLAK® reUN5285 and REPLASBLAK® reUN5290, exhibit remarkable versatility at low master batch addition rates, enhancing material management efficiency during production. Both products deliver high gloss and deep black coloring, offering comparable color and mechanical properties to standard universal black master batches, making them suitable for various automotive applications, including interior, exterior, and under-the-hood components. Specifically, REPLASBLAK reUN5285 incorporates 45% of material made from physically recycled polymers, certified under the ISCC PLUS mass balance approach, ideal for compounding applications in the automotive sector. Meanwhile, REPLASBLAK reUN5290, containing 20% of similarly certified material, is suitable for compounding as well as injection molding and sheet extrusion in the automotive industry.

Cabot’s Executive Vice President and President of Global Carbon and Silicon Materials Technology Solutions, Battery Materials Business, and Asia-Pacific, Zhu Ji, expressed great anticipation and pride in the new product launch. He stated that as the world’s first leading enterprise to provide universal black master batches, Cabot is honored to introduce these two new REPLASBLAK black master batch products using ISCC PLUS certified materials. These additions not only enrich the company’s product line but also provide customers with the authoritative verification needed to advance sustainability goals through third-party certification, ensuring the integrity and reliability of global supply chains. Zhu emphasized that this launch reflects Cabot’s steadfast commitment to driving sustainable material innovation and developing novel solutions for a sustainable future.
