Bio – Degradable and High – Tech: Tongchuan’s Dual – Engine Project Growth

April 20, 2025 – In the production workshop of Shaanxi Zhongyu New Material Technology Co., Ltd. in Yaozhou District, Tongchuan City, the rumble of machinery fills the air. Workers skillfully operate the equipment as bags of fully biodegradable plastic bags and eco-friendly disposable tableware roll off the production line in an orderly manner, presenting a bustling manufacturing scene.

As a crucial force in Tongchuan’s transformation as a resource-based city, the new material industry is thriving. Wang Xin, General Manager of Shaanxi Zhongyu New Material Technology Co., Ltd., revealed that in response to the trend of green consumption, the company has established a 50,000-ton annual production project for fully biodegradable products. Using renewable raw materials like corn starch and straw, the project leverages advanced processes to produce degradable items that can decompose naturally within about 100 days. This not only significantly alleviates the problem of “white pollution” but also reduces reliance on traditional fossil resources. Currently, the company’s fully biodegradable mulch film production line is in operation, with a daily output of 30 tons, mainly supplying regions such as Shaanxi and Gansu. Once the entire project is fully operational, it will become the largest bio-based degradable material base in the northwest region. According to AsiaMB, the widespread application of such degradable materials holds great significance for the green transformation of the chemical industry.

Meanwhile, the 203-million-yuan project for an annual production of 100,000 tons of high-performance special aluminum profiles for aviation is also progressing rapidly. At the project site, vehicles constantly come and go as the construction of extrusion, oxidation, and spraying production lines proceeds in full swing. Huang Feng, the project leader, stated that the project’s products will be widely used in aerospace, rail transit, and other fields. During the project’s implementation, various departments in Tongchuan City provided full support. Through “government-bank-enterprise” matchmaking meetings, institutions such as the Bank of China and Shaanxi Rural Credit Union were facilitated to provide a 20-million-yuan loan for the project, resolving the funding issue.

The efficient advancement of key projects in Tongchuan City benefits from the coordinated efforts of various departments. The local government has established a special project construction team, implementing mechanisms for dynamic reporting, deviation alerts, and problem supervision to conduct precise analysis of the investment operation situation. Statistics show that as of the end of March, all 134 urban and district-level key projects in the first quarter of Tongchuan City and the 2024 policy-funded projects have commenced construction. Eight municipal key projects in the second quarter have been launched ahead of schedule. The commencement rates of provincial and municipal key projects have reached 78% and 46% respectively, with investment completion rates of 26% and 22%. It is expected that the fixed asset investment in the first quarter will increase by 14.8%.
