July 3, 2025 – BASF Strengthens PA66 Leadership with Full Acquisition of Alsachimie
In a strategic move to consolidate its polyamide supply chain, BASF has completed the 100% acquisition of Alsachimie from joint venture partner DOMO Chemicals. The deal, finalized this week, grants the German chemical giant full control of the France-based precursor materials producer located near the German border.
The acquisition represents a critical step in BASF’s vertical integration strategy for polyamide 66 (PA66) production. Alsachimie’s portfolio includes essential PA66 intermediates such as KA oil, adipic acid, and AH salt – materials crucial for manufacturing high-performance engineering plastics used in automotive and textile applications.

“This transaction secures our leadership position across the entire PA66 value chain,” said Dr. Markus Kamieth, BASF Executive Board member. “With full ownership, we can better serve customers facing volatile raw material markets.” The move follows BASF’s recent expansion of hexamethylenediamine (HMD) capacity to 260,000 metric tons annually at its Chalampé, France facility.
For DOMO Chemicals, the divestment aligns with its refocused strategy on specialty polyamide solutions. “We’re redirecting resources toward high-growth segments like automotive electrification,” explained CEO Yves Bonte, noting the company’s strengthened position in customized polymer formulations.
Industry observers highlight BASF’s aggressive PA66 investments as a response to growing demand for lightweight materials in electric vehicles and industrial applications. The Alsachimie acquisition completes a strategic triad for BASF, complementing its recent capacity expansions in France and Germany. Analysts suggest this vertical integration model may set a new standard for chemical companies navigating complex supply chains in the decarbonization era.
The transaction terms remain undisclosed, but market sources estimate the 49% stake acquisition value in the mid-triple-digit million euro range. The deal received all necessary regulatory approvals prior to closing.
