Barium Carbonate from China, India under EU Anti-Dumping Investigation

December 31, 2024 – EU Initiates Anti-Dumping Investigation on Barium Carbonate from China and India

On December 20, 2024, the European Commission officially announced the launch of an anti-dumping investigation into barium carbonate products originating from China and India. This move follows an application submitted by the EU company Kandelium Group GmbH on November 5th. The barium carbonate products under investigation are classified under the EU’s Combined Nomenclature (CN) code ex 2836 60 00, with the corresponding TARIC code being 2836 60 00 10.

According to the European Commission’s notice, the dumping investigation phase will cover the period from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024. Meanwhile, the injury investigation will span from January 1, 2021, until the conclusion of the dumping investigation period. This comprehensive assessment aims to determine whether barium carbonate imports from China and India have caused dumping and harm to the EU market during these timeframes.

Insights from AsiaMB reveal that the preliminary ruling in this case is expected to be made within the next seven months, with a maximum extension of up to eight months. During this period, the European Commission will thoroughly examine various factors, including import volumes, price trends, market shares, and the production and sales situations of similar products within the EU. This comprehensive analysis will help to ascertain the existence of dumping practices and their impact on the EU industry.

The initiation of this anti-dumping investigation is poised to significantly affect barium carbonate trade between China, India, and the EU. Relevant exporting companies must closely monitor the progress of the EU’s investigation and proactively address potential anti-dumping measures to safeguard their legitimate interests. Similarly, barium carbonate producers and importers within the EU need to stay informed about the case’s developments to adjust their procurement and sales strategies accordingly.
