September 03, 2024 – Baofeng Energy’s olefin project in Inner Mongolia, known as the world’s largest single-plant olefin production project, is currently under intense development. According to the project leader, the main civil engineering and design work have been completed, and the project is now entering a critical phase of process piping and anti-corrosion insulation work. It’s worth mentioning that the installation progress of the steel structure and core equipment has exceeded 90%, and the first phase of the project is expected to be operational as scheduled in October 2024. By then, Baofeng Energy’s olefin production capacity will double to 5.2 million tons per year, elevating the company to a leading position in the global coal-to-olefins industry.

This project in Inner Mongolia represents Baofeng Energy’s transition towards high-end, green, and intelligent transformation of coal-based new materials. Its impressive design scale, including an annual output of 1.325 million tons of methanol, 5 million tons of olefins, 2.5 million tons of polyethylene, and 2.5 million tons of polypropylene, has made it a global focal point. Upon full production, Baofeng Energy will have an annual production capacity of 20 million tons of methanol, 8.46 million tons of olefins, 4.23 million tons of polyethylene, and 4.23 million tons of polypropylene, providing significant support for national energy security.
During the project’s implementation, Baofeng Energy adopted domestically developed, world-class modern coal chemical technology and equipment, setting new industry records with the world’s “five largest” and the nation’s “three largest” achievements. This reflects the high-quality development of China’s modern coal chemical industry and demonstrates China’s strength as a manufacturing powerhouse. Notably, the project utilizes the DMTO-III methanol-to-olefins technology from the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, reducing methanol consumption per ton of olefin produced from 2.88 tons to 2.65 tons, significantly improving production efficiency. This project leads the industry in various aspects, including production scale, process technology, equipment standards, energy efficiency, smart manufacturing, and economic benefits, playing a crucial role in driving the high-quality development of the modern coal chemical industry.
According to AsiaMB, Baofeng Energy has consistently focused on enhancing its core competitiveness through technological innovation and industrial upgrading. The successful progress of the Inner Mongolia olefin project will not only bring considerable economic benefits to the company but also provide valuable insights and references for the green and sustainable development of the entire coal chemical industry.
