World Earth Day Move: DESCENTE Unveils Green Initiatives with “Design that sustain”

April 24, 2025 – As World Earth Day approaches, DESCENTE, a high – end professional sports brand, has made a significant announcement. It officially unveiled its new environmental initiative, “Design that sustain,” and launched a member – exclusive used clothing recycling program, taking tangible steps to uphold the principles of sustainable development. DESCENTE has long adhered to the philosophy of “driving the spirit of sports through design,” and now, in the realm of sustainability, design remains at the core of its efforts. By leveraging eco – friendly materials, innovative processes, and resource recycling, the brand is charting a greener and more sustainable path for its products.

Centered around the long – term “RE:DESCENTE” sustainability project, DESCENTE has set its sights on three key directions: “Design – Driven Root Circularity,” “Design – Driven Waste Circularity,” and “Design – Driven Scrap Circularity,” corresponding to the strategies of REDUCE, RECYCLE, and REUSE. From raw material selection to garment production, the design concept permeates every stage, transforming environmental protection from an abstract concept into a tangible practice integrated into daily wear. According to AsiaMB, this series of initiatives has drawn widespread attention within the sports brand industry.

DESCENTE’s sustainable actions commence at the raw material stage. In the “RE:DESCENTE” project, design serves as the underlying logic throughout the entire product lifecycle. The brand infuses environmental concepts into the product ideation phase, carefully selecting eco – friendly yarns such as KAMITO, which offer both biodegradability and durability. This approach not only ensures the professional performance of sports gear but also minimizes its environmental impact. Additionally, by optimizing fabric production and dyeing processes, DESCENTE significantly reduces water consumption and carbon emissions during traditional dyeing, achieving green production from the source.

Process optimization is another focal point for DESCENTE. From cutting and pattern – making to layout, the brand endeavors to maximize fabric utilization and minimize waste from fabric scraps. Its DOD (Deadstock On Design) concept enables the transformation of undelivered products and surplus fabrics into new items through creative redesign, thereby extending the value of the original designs. In DESCENTE’s view, every piece of fabric scrap holds the potential for new life rather than being considered mere waste.

Beyond the product lifecycle, DESCENTE is actively establishing a clothing recycling system. In April this year, the brand piloted its member – exclusive used clothing recycling program in stores across six major cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu, and Shenyang, with plans for further expansion. Consumers can drop off their unused DESCENTE clothing at designated store collection boxes to participate in this green initiative. The collected clothing will be sorted, and based on the material and condition, the components will be reused. Some materials will be transformed into polyester yarns for use in new product development, creating a recycling loop involving both the brand and consumers.

To convey its environmental vision to consumers, DESCENTE continuously launches new products under the RE:DESCENTE eco – friendly series. In March this year, a product line featuring ZERO WASTE pattern design made its debut. Through precise fabric layout and structural optimization, this line reduces material waste and combines FOLDING and LAYERING techniques to create comfortable and aesthetically unique clothing. In April, a line of cycling apparel based on “masterbatch coloring technology” was introduced. This technology directly fuses color masterbatches into the fiber, ensuring uniform and long – lasting color while significantly reducing water consumption during the dyeing process.

Looking ahead, DESCENTE will continue to deepen its “Design that sustain” environmental initiative, exploring more possibilities for sustainable development across multiple dimensions, from product design to materials, processes, and usage patterns. Relying on the “RE:DESCENTE” project, the brand will persist in its sustainable practices throughout the entire value chain, deeply integrating environmental concepts into the creation of every product. DESCENTE hopes to join hands with more environmentally – conscious sports enthusiasts, pooling efforts to build a green, circular, and symbiotic future.
